Community Movie Night - Coco
/A Little Music, Magic, Popcorn & Community!
On an October evening, students, families, and friends of the Newport String Project gathered at St. Paul’s for a special NSP Community Movie Night! It was an evening filled with music, color, creativity, popcorn, and plenty of opportunities to connect and enjoy one another’s company.
Our featured film was Disney-Pixar’s Coco, a heartwarming animated adventure that takes us on a journey with Miguel, a young boy with a big dream of becoming a musician. Despite his family's generations-old ban on music, Miguel's passion leads him on an extraordinary adventure into the colorful Land of the Dead, where he discovers family secrets, unexpected friendships, and the importance of remembering those who came before us.
Inspired by the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), Coco beautifully celebrates the connections between generations, the power of music, and the special place family holds in our lives. With its unforgettable music, vibrant animation, and wonderful message about following your dreams while honoring your roots, it was the perfect movie for our music-loving NSP community!
We brought a little of that magic into St. Paul's, transforming the room with colorful papel picado flags (traditional decorative banners often seen during Día de los Muertos celebrations). The festive decorations set the scene for a cozy evening together. Popcorn was ready, and our craft table was busy with students creating beautiful marigold garlands inspired by the golden-orange flowers featured in the film and used in Día de los Muertos traditions.
There was something special about seeing everyone gathered together outside of our usual lessons and rehearsals. Students, parents, teachers, and community members had time to relax, share some laughs, get creative, and simply enjoy being together.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so special. We loved celebrating with you and can't wait for our next NSP Community gathering!
