Newport's very own String Quartet visits City Hall

Curious about how a string quartet communicates and makes decisions?

Wondering how musicians can play together without a conductor?

In need of a midday musical pick-me-up?

Join the Newport String Quartet for our lunchtime series at City Hall. These lively 45 minute events will offer a preview of music featured on upcoming concerts, as well as an opportunity for questions and conversation with the musicians.

No RSVP required. Listeners are welcome to drop by for just a few minutes or to join us for the whole rehearsal.

The following quotes are excerpted from Newport Daily News article by Savanna Dunning about the Newport String Project’s Open Rehearsal Series

"Classical music, rich and clear, sweeps through the municipal offices of City Hall. Its origin: a quartet of professional string players practicing inside the council chambers, giving civil servants and the public alike a chance to hear their creative process in real time.

“Whenever I see them walk in, I prop open the door over there, and even if I can't make it down on my lunch break, I’m able to listen to their music while working,” Assistant Planner Hayden McDermott said. “I can't think of another workplace that has that kind of opportunity.”
